Calcium chloride is colorless cubic crystal, white, available in flake, spherical, granular, and powder forms. Non-toxic, odorless, slightly bitter taste. It is extremely hygroscopic and will easily deliquesce if exposed to air. It is easily soluble in water and releases a lot of heat. Its aqueous solution is slightly acidic. Soluble in alcohol, acetone, acetic acid. It reacts with ammonia or alcohol to generate CaCI2·8NH3 and CaCI2·4C2H50H complex compounds respectively. The solution crystallizes at low temperature and precipitates as hexahydrate. When it is further heated to 30C, it dissolves in its own crystal water. It gradually loses water when heated to 200C. 1. Calcium chloride aqueous solution can also be used as refrigerant in refrigerators and ice making.
